Dormient Potential - 6.

  6. The dawn of the new week brought about the preparations of the school festival, which most students were absorbed in. Mariko found out from Hitoshi that the class 1A was preparing a live music show, during which they would play one song. She decided not to ask her classmates about the song as she wanted not to spoil the surprise and hear their cover first. 1B was preparing a fantasy-like play. There was also a beauty contest and older schoolmates said that the school festival also invites some merchants who sell treats and special school festival souvenirs.   Mariko was inside the firing range, practicing her aim with bo shurikens while thinking about all the things that happened. Something was still odd in her opinion. She had so much free time. She knew that she had to spend that time on her workouts and hero training, but there was still something off about it. The job offer that she applied for was created by accident, that’s what Principal Nezu said. But what ki...

  5. More minutes passed and Mr. Aizawa led Mariko to a room on the third floor without windows and a low coping. There were a few lanes with targets positioned in different spots, some of them closer to the firing spot and the rest farther away. “A firing range?” she asked, looking around the room. “Is it Mr. Snipe’s?” Aizawa nodded and pulled out the knife from a hidden boot holder, handing it over to Mariko. She looked at the blade, admiration in her eyes. “Very fine work. Nicely fits your hand and is well balanced, too,” she muttered and stood in the middle of the firing position. She looked over her arm at Mr. Aizawa, non-verbally asking for permission. He nodded once again and then she swung her forearm, releasing the knife in the perfect moment. The blade carried the distance to the closest target and got stuck in the target’s chest. “I didn’t throw for a while so please let me get used to your knife a bit,” she pleaded, jumping over a firing position cover, to get the k...

  4. She saw the students heading back to the dorms and sped up to catch up with a smaller group in which she recognized the spiky red hair. When she was closer, she heard a part of the conversation. “It’s finally weekend,” a boy with blonde hair and a black zigzag on a side of his head said. “Pity we cannot take the new girl for a band practice for the school festival.” “Maybe she’s playing some instrument, who knows,” a girl named Jiro said. She had audio jacks growing straight from her ears, that she could extend and plug herself to any structure or just the ground to hear various sounds from a distance. Mariko closed more space between them and finally heard someone calling her. Unfortunately, it was the little grape man, who nearly creeped her out this morning. “Oh, hi there,” he winked, striking a seductive pose that looked absolutely ridiculous on him. “Hey,” Mariko said and Minoru screamed and then started murmuring something about noticing him. “Hi! We haven’t met y...

  3. They both entered the building, landing in a huge rectangle room, separated into three sections. The first was a living room with comfortable looking sofas, a big smart TV and a fireplace. Then, a few meters away from the furniture, stood a dark table with six matching chairs. Right next to it, there was a fully equipped kitchen section with an aesthetic island. Mariko also saw a smaller hallway leading towards two different staircases and two doors with female and male icons above the door frames – separate bathrooms. Once they entered the building, several heads turned in their direction, curiously glancing at the new visitor. “Izuku?” one soft voice asked and the green-haired boy smiled in reply. “Hi, we have a guest!” “Who’s that?” asked another girl with pink skin shade. Izuku looked at Mariko and she nodded. “I am Okaido Mariko,” she answered walking towards the sofas that the students were occupying. “You might say that I am a transfer student and I will be lear...
